On April 1st, 2022, Zion National Park instituted a new permit system for hiking Angels Landing. If you are planning to hike to the top of Angels Landing during your upcoming Zion National Park retreat, please be aware of the information below.
As you are likely aware, Angels Landing is one of the most popular hikes in Zion National Park. Due to overcrowding issues, the National Park Service is implementing a brand new permit system to control the crowds. It’s based on a lottery system and is required if you’re interested in hiking all the way to the top of Angels Landing.
If you are interested in entering the seasonal lottery, be aware of the deadlines shown in the adjacent image. If the seasonal lottery deadline has passed, you may apply for the day-before lottery the day before you wish to hike. If you are not interested in hiking to the top of Angels Landing, no action is necessary on your part. Guests may hike to Scout Lookout at the base of Angels Landing with no permit.
You are welcome to wear what you like and to dress casually and comfortably. The retreat home is in the mountains, so bring layers so you can be prepared for warm days and cool nights. Here is a recommended packing list:

If you’re interested in hiking the Narrows, a few different gear packages can be rented through Zion Outfitter near the Zion Visitor Center. No reservation is necessary, and the equipment can be rented in the morning on the day that your hike. This is optional, but highly recommended.
